This micro-lot has been produced by small holders in Tolima, La Union, Nariño. Tolima is one of Colombia’s most productive regions and in the last 10 years has always been represented at the Cup of Excellence and all other coffee competitions run by the Colombian Federation. Growers deliver their ripe cherries to the ASOPEP drying station where they are hand sorted, fermented than dried on raised beds. ASOPEP member families include 30 where women are heads of the household and manage the farming operations. Educational capacity building workshops are at the core of ASOPEP’s program to ensure long term sustainability of their success. While many coffee growing countries struggle with keeping young generations interested in coffee production, an impressive 30% of ASOPEP’s farmer members are between 20-30 years old.
